Work History: | Captain Martel enlisted in the US Navy in 1979. He was assigned to the USS Kamehameha in 1981. In 1986, he became an instructor at the FBM Advance Technical Training School in Connecticut. In 1990, Captain Martel was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy as a Medical Service Corps Officer, Healthcare Administration with the Naval Hospital Groton, in Groton, Connecticut. While there, he served as the Assistant Department Head, Operating Management, Head of Plans Operations Medical Intelligence and Reserve Affairs, Head of Professional Affairs, and Head of Manpower Management. In 1994, he transferred to the US Naval Hospital in Guam and served as Head of Patient Administration and Legal Officer. Captain Martel then transferred to the Naval Hospital in Bremerton in 1996, and served as Head of Nutrition Management and Food Services, and Head of Managed Care. In 1999, he was selected early for Lieutenant Commander and in 2000 transferred to the Lead Agent's Office at Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, Colorado, serving as Head of Business Operations. He then became the Director of Managed Care overseeing Managed Care Business Operations Policy and Implementation for 26 medical treatment facilities in 16 states. Captain Martel was assigned as the Officer in Charge of the Brunswick Naval Station Branch Health Clinic in Brunswick, Maine in 2003 and promoted to Commander in 2006, when we was transferred to the Naval Operations Medical Institute as the Director for Administration. From 2008 through 2009, he deployed to Kuwait as the assistant OIC of Detachment Hotel and Director for Administration in EMF Kuwait. In 2010, he was assigned as the Director of Health Care Business at Naval Hospital Pensacola, after which he was promoted to Captain in 2011. In 2011, Captain Martel was transferred to the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery as Director of Human Resources Manpower Plans and Business Policy. In 2014, he became the Executive Officer for Naval Hospital Beaufort and Commanding Officer of their Expeditionary Medical Facility. In 2016, Captain Martel became the Commanding Officer of the Naval Hospital in Quantico, Virginia. |
